Everything happens for the best
There once lived a farmer in a village.
He owned a tall and swift white horse, admired by all.
One day, the horse broke its tether and ran away.
Hearing this, the farmer’s neighbors came to express their sorrow.
However, the farmer remained calm and unaffected, sitting silently.
The neighbors, displeased with his behavior, left, murmuring among themselves that he deserved such misfortune.
The next day, the horse returned, bringing along three wild horses with it.
The neighbors rushed back to the farmer's house, congratulating him on his remarkable stroke of luck.
But the farmer still said nothing and remained composed.
Two days later, while riding one of the wild horses, the farmer’s only son fell and broke his leg.
Once again, the neighbors came to express their sympathy and lamented the unfortunate incident. They thought the farmer was a cold and emotionless man, as he still showed no reaction.
In truth, the farmer saw every event as a divine decision, inherently benevolent.
The following morning, military officials arrived in the village, rounding up all the able-bodied young men to forcefully enlist them in the army.
The farmer’s son, having a broken leg, was spared from conscription.
Who can truly say what is good or bad for us?
Life is vast and complex, and its worth cannot be judged by isolated events.
One must view life in its entirety.
Everything that happens, happens for the best.
